The Apple iBook laptop is geared towards the general audience and consumers in education. The iBook was produced from 1999-2006, during which three iBook models were released; the iBook G3 Clamshell, a less bulky iBook G3, and the iBook G4. Because they aren't made anymore, iBooks are cheap to get, and for many they still work great for the regular computer tasks.

iBook G3 Clamshell
This iBook G3 was dubbed the "Clamshell" because of it's clamshell like appearance and shape. It was produced from 1999-2000 and came in a variety of colors. The colors actually give clue to when it was made and what features it has. Tangerine and Blueberry were released in 1999. graphite in February 2000, and graphite, indigo, and key lime in September 2000.

iBook G3
Following the clamshell the next generation iBook G3 was released in 2001. Apple canceled the bulky clamshell design and opted for a more modern look. The result was a laptop that was 30% lighter and 50% smaller than the iBook G3 Clamshell.

iBook G4
In 2003 Apple replaced the PowerPC G3 chip with the PowerPC G4 chip and created the iBook G4. The disc tray found in the iBook G3 models was replaced with a slot-loading optical drive. The iBook G4 was produced until 2006.
